Cameron Menzies has said his all Team Unicorn tie with Charlie Manby will be a "cracking game.”
The 36 year old from Muirkirk is gearing up for his fourth appearance at the Palace after another quality year on tour, which has seen him reach a second major Quarter-Final, as well as capture a second title on the Pro Tour.
Reflecting on his year, he said:
"If you look on paper, it's been my best year to date.
Hopefully that continues at the worlds.
But we'll see how it goes at Ally Pally - because if you get beaten first round, it can almost feel like the year's been a bit of a failure, as this one that you want to do well in.
So yeah, I've had a decent year, and hopefully I'll end it on a high."
He believes that that second major Quarter-Final, combined with his previous three appearances at the Palace, will bode him well going into the event:
"I would say there are perhaps a few more nerves - simply because it's Ally Pally.
That said, the experience will do me more good than bad.
It's just about dealing with it at the time - but the experience definitely helps.
We'll have to see what happens."
And on facing fellow his fellow Team Unicorn star:
"When I saw the draw, I knew it was going to be a cracking game.
Some folk who don't watch all the darts asked me about him - and I told them what a player he is.
The young man's flying. He's a star.
He's had a great year, and was definitely one of the harder draws players in my position could get."
Cammy and Charlie face off in R1 of the World Championship at 13:30 on 15th December.
