He was close but Gary Anderson’s bid to win a second Players Championship crown came to an end in the semi-finals in Minehead.
The Unicorn star was edged out 11-9 in a thriller by Michael van Gerwen, who was then beaten 11-9 in an epic final by Daryl Gurney who claimed his second ‘Major’ TV title in sensational style.

Gary Anderson and Chris Dobey will fly the Unicorn flag as the pair bid for Players Championship glory.
In the last 16, both won all Unicorn clashes.....Dobey beating James Wade in a thrilling last leg decider but Anderson was too good for Joe Cullen winning 10-2.
The Scot, who won the tournament back in 2014, has dropped only five legs so far this weekend. For Dobey it was arguably the biggest win of his career and he reached a ‘Major’ TV quarter-final for the second time.
It was a terrific day

And Gary Anderson wasn’t far behind White in terms of performance!
In all 14 Team Unicorn players came to the Players Championship party.

There was heartache for Gary Anderson at the Grand Slam as he fell to an agonising defeat in the final.
The Unicorn man was beaten 16-13 by Gerwyn Price in Wolverhampton on Sunday in what was an ill-tempered final.
Having seen off Michael van Gerwen in the semi-finals, Anderson got embroiled in a war of words with Price and from 13-11 in front, he lost five straight legs as Price became the first Welshman to claim a PDC Major.
It really was there for the taking but Gary couldn’t take his chances

Devon Petersen will be back at the World Championship.
The Team Unicorn ace won the African qualifier on Sunday to make it to the Alexandra Palace for a sixth time.
It will be a huge relief for Devon who has endured a tough year on the PDC Pro Tour.
But he will get another chance to shine on the biggest stage in World darts next month.
At the qualifier in Cape Town on Sunday, Petersen held his nerve as he justified his favourites tag to go through from a strong field of 64 players.

So over to you Gary!

It wasn’t to be for Dimitri van den Bergh.
The Unicorn youngster was beaten 16-9 in the Grand Slam quarter-finals by Mensur Suljovic on Friday night.
But it has still been an amazing week for the 24-year-old Belgian who showed yet again that he is going to have a big say in the world of darts for many years to come.
And of course he has that history making 9-darter in the bank, another quarter-final in a TV ‘Major’ and so much to look forward to.
Yes, he was desperately disappointed afterwards, but
